Rebecca Gorman will take over as Vice President for Education next semester after beating Alhassan Aldhahli in the DITSU Elections.

In the only contested sabbatical election, Human Nutrition and Dietetics student Rebecca took home the title by 1,998 votes to Alhassan’s 945, with 130 votes for Reopening Nominations and 82 spoiled.

Speaking after her impressive victory, Rebecca told the Edition: “I am most excited about being able to work for students in a full time capacity, because I have always been doing that as a student anyway and I was doing a course at the same time that was insanely intense.

“Now I get to dedicate my full amount of time to at a job I know that I will love.”

Pierre Yimbog is the new President-elect, while Roisin O’Donovan will stay on as Vice President for Welfare.

Speaking about taking over from Boni Odoemene as President, current VP for Education Pierre said: “What I’m most excited about now is working with the new executive in a new era for DITSU and DIT as we go into becoming a Technological University.

“That will bring up some challenges but some great opportunities for us to improve the student movement here in DIT and make sure we connect with students.”

Jess Morris won for Events, and is really looking forward to the year ahead.
