DIT’s Dance Soc won the Hip Hop category at the annual Dance Intervarsities held in the Cork Opera House last week.
It was the first time the society has won after a number of runner up finishes.
“This year was my 4th year in Dance Society. Winning in the Hip Hop category was a dream that I had dreamed for so many years,” said Tolayo Akinlabi Vice Chairperson of Dance Soc.
“When they announced DIT won first place, I could not believe it and still can’t believe it.
“Every single member in the crew gave 10000% in that performance and I am so proud of each and every one of them. I’m so happy we brought back this shield for DIT.”
Kaytee Behan of DIT Societies Office said: “The DIT Societies Office are delighted that the Dance Society has gotten the recognition they deserve at this year’s in Cork Opera House.
“They put on a fantastic performance and we’re ridiculously proud of them. Congratulations, again”.
President of Societies Executive Ciaran Freeman said: “While Dance Soc are the only Dance Society in Ireland who do not have access to full time dance studios within their own college.
“They improvise training spaces from classrooms and halls and overcame the difficulties surrounding their crew having members that span across all DIT campuses. They were in competition against colleges that have state of the art facilities on a singular campus.
“I’m most definitely not any of your Mammy’s, but if I was I’d be swelling up with pride. Myself, the Exec & the office staff couldn’t be prouder of your achievement and you’ve only motivated us further to ensure that DIT provides to you the facilities and dance studios that you deserve.”
“You have all achieved so much with facilities that are simply an insult to your dedication, just imagine what you could do with the facilities at your doorstep”, Freeman also went on to say.
